HISTORY
The Peterborough Museum is reputed to be one of the most paranormally active locations within Peterborough and claims to have at least 10 different phantoms within its walls! The building also has an interesting history too and is widely regarded as the most haunted building in Cambridgeshire.
Dating from the early 1800's, the building was originally the home of Thomas Cooke and his wife, Charlotte. From the mid 1850's the property became the city of Peterborough's first hospital (the Peterborough infirmary), which lasted until 1928; the Conservation room in the museum used to be the original operating theatre!
In the late 1800's, the Peterborough Natural History Society & Field Club began collecting the museum items which can be seen to this day.
GHOSTS & HAUNTINGS
The hauntings within Peterborough are numerous and well documented.
THE INFAMOUS CELLAR
One area of particular notoriety is the cellar at Peterborough Museum, where it is believed several ghostly inhabitants reside - including a rather sinister presence. During previous Dead Haunted Nights events in this area guests have experienced noises, objects moving, phantom breath, and what appeared to be the figure of a monk. Two participants even saw what they described as a 'small, white animal...the size of a large cat or small dog'. This vanished as the participants panicked.
THE LONELY ANZAC SOLDIER
The ghost of a WWI soldier; perhaps the museums most well known.
The figure of an Australian soldier, believed to be that of Sergeant Thomas Hunter from the Australian New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs), has been seen on a number of occasions and is predominantly seen in the area of the main staircase. Wounded during battle, he was brought to the then Peterborough infirmary, where he unfortunately died of his injuries. His figure has been seen very recently.
THE HAUNTED STAIRCASE
On the back staircase to the museum the ghostly form of a young woman has been seen and visitors have reported being pushed in this particular area. Does this have any connections to how she died?
THE MYSTERIOUS LADY in WHITE
The spirit of a lady in white has also been seen throughout the building, and visitors have even reported being followed by her presence.
A FOREBODING PRESENCE
No haunted building would be complete without its nastier entities, and Peterborough Museum is no exception. In the museum is a recreation of a goods store from many years ago, around which lurks what has been described by visitors as a menacing presence. This is one particular area of the museum that several staff dislike.
THE ROMAN SOLDIER
The shadowy form of a Roman soldier is still connected to a certain article on display within the museum, apparently making his presence known if it is moved.
THE POLTERGEIST
In one of the ground floor rooms, furniture has been known to move by the unseen hands of a poltergeist.

Overnight paranormal investigation with author and 'Most Haunted' expert & presenter Phil Whyman. Phil will give a brief explanation of investigation equipment and theories for its usage as well as leading investigation groups throughout the night. A familiarisation tour of the building in lit conditions prior to the lights going out. Participation in vigils and paranormal experiments (participation is optional).Snacks, refreshments - hot & cold - and use of paranormal investigation equipment will be provided throughout the event and there will be a post investigation discussion of any paranormal activity encountered.
